Dates

The meeting starts on Wednesday, May 18th 2:00PM; with an ending on Friday, May 20th 12:30PM. It will be followed on friday afternoon by a meeting of the NewCompstar WG2 focussed on "Microphysics inputs for neutron-star global models".

Accommodation

Although there are plenty of hotels in Paris, we recommend that you reserve as soon as possible since May is already tourist season. The most convenient to reach Meudon is to take a hotel in the Montparnasse area, close to the Montparnasse train station. There are also many restaurants in that area. Below you can find a small - not exhaustive- list of hotels having prices per night for a single room between 90 and 110 Euros.

Meeting location & travel information

The workshop takes place in Meudon Observatory, building 9 (château).

Pedestrian access : Observatoire de Paris, 5 place Jules Janssen, 92195 Meudon

Vehicle access: 11 avenue Marcelin Berthelot, 92195 Meudon (turn right at the place Janssen, then left once in the avenue Marcelin Berthelot)

The Meudon site of the Paris Observatory is located at the highest point of the city.

Access using the Montparnasse train station

  • From the Montparnasse station in Paris, take the slow train in the direction of Sèvres Rive Gauche (less frequently in the direction of Versailles-Chantiers, Rambouillet, Chartres, etc)
  • Third stop: Meudon (after Vanves-Malakoff and Clamart). Leave the station by turning right, and after about 200 meters turn right again, then go straight up the hill.
  • Forth stop: Meudon-Bellevue. Leave the station by turning left, take the avenue du Château which climbs gently. The Observatory entrance is located at the top.

Access using the RER (regional express train)

  • Take any train on the RER-C line which goes to Versailles Rive Gauche and get off at the Meudon-Val Fleury station. Then go to Meudon, making sure not to go in the direction of Clamart (it is best to ask your way). The walk takes about 15 to 20 minutes, and the hill is fairly steep.
  • There is a bus, number 289 direction Clamart; get off at Église de Meudon. Cross the road and go up the hill (about 5 min walk).

Access using the Metro + Bus

  • By the metro line 12, get off at the terminus Mairie d’Issy, take the bus number 169 in the direction of Pont de Sèvres; get off at either the Place Rabelais or the Église de Meudon.
  • By the metro line 9, get off at the terminus Pont de Sèvres, take the bus number 169 in the direction of the Hôpital européen George Pompidou ; get off at either the Place Rabelais or the Église de Meudon.

In either case, go up the hill up to the park (about 5 min walk).

Access by car

  • Coming from Paris :
    • by the Boulevard Périphérique, take the Quai d’Issy exit, then go in the direction of Issy les Moulineaux, Sèvres, then Meudon
    • by the RN 118, from the Pont de Sèvres, go in the direction of Chartres Orléans, exit at Meudon Sèvres, then go to Meudon

A conference dinner will be organised on Thursday evening, May 19th, in Paris, Restaurant Perraudin, 157 rue St Jacques, 75005 Paris. Please indicate upon registration if you wish to participate ( 25 Euros per person). Transport by car to Paris for the conference dinner will be organised.
